Casting Call
Parts for Millstone Derry Citizens

There are different categories of performer.  Key Performers.  Performers.  Vending Performers. Working Performers and Extras.  Each will have established a character, story line and given range to improvise material within the context of their assigned history and character. The degree of improvisation is made on an individual basis.

Characters will be an even mix with Millstone Derry Staff, Production Crew, Observers and others involved in the daily operation and maintenance of the resort.  Producers and Directors will also take on roles as needed to facilitate the storylines and monitor progress and performance.  For instance, a Director may take the role of a Key Performer's Servant in order to be in a better position to carry out important tasks and be on hand to consult and advise the performers.  Staff/Crew members will also blend in with the citizens and guests, providng necessary upkeep and support.  These citizens keep a low profile as to avoid breaking the illusion or realism in the resort.  They will be in costume and keep to the rules of the "stage" while in the resort.

Every performer will be required to complete a series of training courses that will give them background and history to convincingly adopt a role in this time period and communicate with others in the resort about common events, locations and personalities in the resort.  Our goal is to convert the 500-acres of Millstone Derry into a great stage full of actors and complex drama for the duration of our guests' stay and to provide a vivid tapestry, visually seamless from the Mayor's wig to the apple vendor's soiled hems.

Classification of Each Performer.
Each performer is classified based on their role in the resort.  All actors are compensated based on their contracts to be paid biweekly by electronic transfer or check, or may be paid upon completion of their contracted engagement.   During their performance, each performer will be expected to remain in the resort and will be provided lodging along with daily or weekly expense vouchers (in the form of local currency) that can be exchanged for goods and services within the resort, including the general store, the actor's guild (to provide modern amenities for their private use), restaurants, shops and attractions when not "on" in performance.

Each performer will be assigned an area of operation.  In the case of Extras and Working/Vending Performers, it will be a block, district or position in the resort.  Every performer is expected to be in-character at all times, but is free to roam and carry out their character's private life outside the restrictions of their assigned duties.

For example, a Bartender from a tavern will be assigned to the Moon & Sixpense between 7pm and 2am during the week, but is free to rest, eat and interact with other performers and guests outside as desired (within the rules and regulations of performance in the park).    Performers and Key Performers will have a more intense agenda and higher guest interaction during the week or two-week Active phase.  Most of these roles will be assisted by Producers or Directors along with their own entourage of Supporting Crew members.

Each performer will be assigned lodging for the duration of his or her contract in keeping with the assigned role.  Every private room is set up with modern amenities to maintain proper hygeine, rest and privacy.  Only here and in "safe areas" will characters be permitted to be out-of-character.    In some cases, the performers will have "public" accomodations and "private" in keeping with the needs of the character.

While all performers are to remain in-character while in the resort, there are two levels of expected performance.  Any time a Guest is within line of sight or 50meters, or within the boundaries of any planed activity or improvised action, performers are considered to be "on" and actively supporting the local activity and interacting appropriate to the situation.  Between 9PM and 5AM, any inactive area of the resort (Northern Residential, outside the wall, inside the Keeps) and areas not currently occupied by Guests will be considered "nominal" areas of performance.

Performers are provided time out of character during the Dormant and Inactive phases of the Resort.

Types of Performers

EXTRAS

These are our interns, newly hired performers and guests of the park to "fill out" the population.  They will be seen enjoying the fireworks on Kurnvald Island, populating a café along Main Street or cheering on the fisticuffs that just broke out outside the Eagle & Green Tavern.   These performers are often understudies and trainees getting the feel of the landscape of Millstone Derry, making it their home prior to accepting a larger, more complex role.  They, like all characters, will have a name and history which is chosen by the actor and developed with the assistance of the production department.  These characters have taken at least one introductory-level training course prior to stepping on stage.

Extras can be assigned Dormitory or Bunkhouse housing when necessary. They will be able to use the resort main gate at the beginning and end of their contact and given pay vouchers based on their assigned roles between £1-5 weekly for resort wares and food.

WORKING PERFORMERS
Working Performers are paid for their services in the resort in addition to performance as characters.  They are more colorful characters, walk-on parts in the experience of our guests.  These are the lamplighters, the hansom and buggy drivers, street performers, butlers and servants, farm workers and other who make things happen.

There will also be positions available for cross-trained cast/crew performers who will work with Security and Upkeep depending on need.

PERFORMERS
Performers are supporting or background players in the resort’s ongoing stories.  They are often understudies for Key performers posing as valets, personal assistants, nobles and others charged with providing improvised exchanges and encounters with other characters and the guests.  Performers are some of the liveliest, most animated and - in turn - knowledgeable performers in the resort.  They are expected to help keep the drama moving and to fill in gaps where necessary.
